Dell Boomi Integration for Largest Pharmacy Retailer in Australia

Australia’s largest pharmacy retailer, with locations throughout Australasia, planned to improve customers’ healthcare outcomes through the most effective and efficient means possible, resulting in significant savings for the end user. For our retail client, the Morpheus project was implemented to replace the existing order and invoice exchange mechanism between stores and suppliers with a faster and more streamlined ecosystem.

Executive Summary

As part of Retail Order and Invoice management, the client required a robust centralized integration platform capable of guaranteed message delivery, parallel processing, high volume data handling, and secure communication to manage critical data flow between various end systems such as on-premise ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics AX), on-premise database (Microsoft SQL Server), PharmX (a cloud-based external supplier gateway portal), SFTP server, and so on.

Ray Business Technologies subject matter experts collaborated closely with project stakeholders to understand the application’s business requirements. The modules were designed by the RBT team to be highly usable and to the satisfaction of the end users. This increased the company’s profit margins.

Challenges

Highly critical data, such as Products, Orders, Order Acknowledgements, Invoices, Supplier Statements, Credits, and so on, must be transferred among various end systems, introducing multiple integration touch points.

A dependable integration middleware that can handle streamlined, secure, and performance effective data transfer between the mentioned end systems with zero data loss, bulk processing capability, and robust error handling was required.

Solution

The RBT team successfully implemented all integrations using Dell Boomi middleware. Parallel processing was implemented in Boomi using the Atom Queue feature, resulting in high throughput while handling large volumes. Boomi includes robust error handling to make production support easier. Boomi’s solution ensured transaction security and message delivery.

Application workflow:

Warehouse Order Integration: Warehouse Orders are placed by Stores to Suppliers via the MRM application and stored in the MS SQL Server database. Boomi used an external scheduler to collect orders stored in DB at predefined intervals. Boomi converted these Orders and sent them to MS Dynamics AX as Sales Orders after applying business rules. Following the creation of Sales Orders in AX, Sales Invoices were generated, and these invoices were collected by Stores via MRM.
